Science Inheritance

DNA is inherited and passed own from parents.

GENE  – A section of DNA which codes for a particular trait, for example blue eyes, blonde hair, etc.

ALLELE – Different sections of the same gene, for example blue vs brown eyes.

PHENOTYPE – The physical/outward appearance.

GENOTYPE – The two inherited alleles (internal appearance)

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total chromotids)

Half our chromosomes are inherited (passed down) from each parent

Which chromosomes our parents pass on to us is random but the probability of inheriting some traits is greater than others

Punnett Squares

Punnett Squares are used to show what could happen when a set of parents alleles combine to make an offspring.
